Dreamfrost padded through the forest after receiving the news of Mossheart leaving the clan. “I don’t know what to feel....what am I suppose to feel? Sad? Angry? Enraged? Confused? Betrayed? Happy?” She thought to herself, staring at the ground. “I really didn’t know Mossheart, besides a bit of small talk we shared, we didn’t even talk.” The she cat sighed and continued to walk only half aware of where she was going, as normal. She thought more and more about Mossheart, and the lack of feelings she had for her.
This went on until the sun set and the stars had risen high in the sky, that’s when Dreamfrost rose her head.
“Drat” she muttered under her breath “Snowclan border. Always end up at a border!”
“What are you doing here?” a voice spoke from the other side. Dreamfrost jumped, fur bristling, startled by another voice being there. She quickly looked around to try to find the owner. She looked around, fearful that she crossed the border, and backed up
“I...I..” she stuttered, still not knowing where the voice was coming from.
“Don’t be nervous, I’m friendly” Dreamfrost finally spotted the queen sitting with her face up turned to the stars. Dreamfrost sat, unsure of the other she cat, tucking herself into the shadows. “What are you doing here?” the queen asked again.
“I didn’t mean to venture so far...” Dreamfrost spoke softly, the queen turned to look at her.
“Ah, dreams are powerful” the queen said wisely
“Yes..yes they are...” Dreamfrost said, beginning to trust the stranger. After all, she was listening, and that’s really the only thing Dreamfrost wanted. Someone to listen.
“By the way, I’m Firefur”
“Dreamfrost” she lowered her voice, “the fool of dawnclan...”
“We battled, didn’t we?” Firefur asked
“I...well...maybe.. I’m not sure to tell you the truth. I live in a state of confusion, I can barely tell dreams from reality anymore” she confessed.
“That sounds horrible”
“I quite enjoy it!” She spat defensively, but quickly backed deeper into the shadows, not knowing where the anger she had came from.
“If I was to live in my dreams, I wouldn’t have met my mate. But, he also wouldn’t be in star clan” the sadness began to sink into the queen’s voice as she spoke of her love. Somehow, all the grey-blue she cat heard was mate.
“You have a mate?” Her eagerness soaked her voice, hoping for advice of how to find that special tom .
“He hunts in star clan” the queen looked down at her paws, Dreamfrost realized what she meant and felt very guilty for bringing up such a painful memory for the queen.
“I’m.. I’m sorry..”
“It’s alright” the she cat returned her gaze to the sky and after a while spoke again, “I’ve been out of it recently” Dreamfrost wondered if she’d forgotten that she was there.
“Out of it?” she said, inching closer.
“Out of character, my sister says it has to do with the loss of my mate and the fact that I’m going to have kits soon” another long pause caused Dreamfrost to shift in place before the queen spoke again “The stars. That I was looking at earlier, seem to change, like a warrior running in place, always there” Dreamfrost glanced up at the starry sky and nodded.
The two sat there for quite some time, chatting like old friends, until the stars began to set and they parted ways. And Dreamfrost still had no clue how she should feel about Mossheart.
